In addition to the train system, De Lijn, the bus company operating in the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium (Flanders) is seen on every corner. The concept of knowing which bus to hop on is pretty much the same as knowing which train to catch except for the fact that you only need to know half of the area names especially Flanders only. To put it another way, you need to know where about you are and your intended destination. Then hop on the right bus. To help you find the right bus, you can use your Google Maps or DE LiJN Apps. Talking about DE LiJN Apps, you should download it and buy a 10-time-use ticket type (the same thing to train tickets), for this will save you a lot of money.
You should also be aware that both train and bus tickets need to be purchased or activated first before you get on and start your journey. However, for the bus, you can also pay on the bus by scanning your Credit card on a scanning machine next to the driver. Furthermore, you should also possess more than one Credit card if you can. In my case, my Credit card from ABA is not recognized by the scanning machine on the bus. I end up having to use my other Credit card from Jtrust all the time.
