I partook in "The Unthinkable Experiment" in Labiomista in Genk for two days and one evening. I had a chance to meet Mr. Koen Vanmechelen. That Art Gallery blew my mind even though I did not understand much about art. Mr. Koen Vanmechelen has created innumerable amount of artworks in addition to his scientific involvement in chicken interbreeding across the globe.
I was so curious about the project and concerned at the same as I most often find it really challenging for me to manage to have a very good relationship and maintain to carry on talking and discussing in a very interesting environment with new people for a long period of time without turning that moment I am with new people into a sterile atmosphere filled with prolonged discomfort, especially those who were from various walks of life. Furthermore, I also find it very difficult for me to explain my thought to people when they do not seem to be engaged in my talk or do not respect the opposite ideas by teasing and criticizing the difference in opinion in an impolite way.
Labiomista project's actual name is "The Unthinkable Experiment" in which I had to work with a group of students who were from Belgium, Ecuador, England-Denmark, Thailand-Belgium, and Iran. The whole project was led by Mr. Janssen Stijn, who is really friendly, helpful, charming, and considerate.
Before getting our hands dirty with the project, we had a lovely dinner together in the evening of the first day we met after having watched Mr. Koen Vanmechelen's introduction about his artworks as well as his scientific projects around the world.
The actual project started the next morning after that dinner. Within "The Unthinkable Experiment" we all had to work on "The Future of Education". To work with that topic peacefully in nature, we were walked through the park located behind the Labiomista to the glass cubicles where we would receive some introduction, orientation, and objectives of the project from Mr. Janssen for we began our journey.
We were paired up and switched a partner to think of ideas of what future education should be like and then we discussed all the possible ways to implement those ideas. To be honest, the idea of discussing my thoughts which are different from other people's thoughts was always very hard for me since I mostly become numb and run out of ideas when people disagree with me impolitely. Nonetheless, this group of people was so sensible and polite when they had to go against my thoughts, which made me value that project and that kind of understanding very much.
What I have learned so far from this project is that every individual is unique. We should try our best to value and respect that person by creating a channel for that person to express their thoughts and we need to show them that their perspectives are always appreciated if we all want people in our society to become creative and future leaders of our nations.
